Feral Friends #7 - Helen and Dannie, SeaChange Retreats

Swim Feral has some Feral Friends; extraordinary humans that approach life and their fellow swimmers with such massive love, support and inclusivity that we've sent them a Turtleback Bag.

We were so happy to discover the work of SeaChange Retreats; we're sounding the special lifeguard klaxon!  Wonderful outdoor swimming community - you should rally around Helen and Dannie's brilliant enterprise and check out what they do too.

SeaChange Retreats offer a unique approach to cancer recovery, through day, weekend and week retreats centred around surfing and wellbeing, specifically designed for adults in recovery from cancer.

Dr. Helen Reynolds is a Clinical Psychologist, Surf Instructor and RLSS Lifeguard. She has worked in the NHS for 11 years with children and adults with a range of mental and physical health difficulties, delivering specialist assessments and therapy. She has also worked with the Wave Project for the past 4 years as a Surf Instructor for their Surf Therapy and Beach School projects.

Unable to resist the call of the ocean any longer, Helen moved to Newquay from London in 2016, and vows she is never leaving! SeaChange brings together Helen's passion for evidence-based clinical intervention, whole-person wellbeing and her love of surfing.

Dannie MacLennan has been living and surfing in Newquay since 2010. A former Surf Instructor and Lifeguard, she is a passionate volunteer for the Wave Project, providing surf therapy to young people with anxiety, autism and physical disabilities to help improve their confidence, health and emotional wellbeing. Hailing from the Highlands of Scotland, she graduated from Glasgow University with an MSci in Mathematics & Physics and now works as a freelance web designer, balancing work with her loves of surfing, travel, hiking and yoga. Dannie’s enthusiasm and charisma, balanced with her organisational wizardry underpins SeaChange Retreats success.

Helen's review of our Turtleback outdoor swimming bag:

"The #turtlebackbag is the perfect companion for anyone keen on outdoor water sports! It has an insulated changing mat keeping your toes toasty, and plenty of room to stash your stuff while changing in it. It’s fully waterproof and made from recycled tarpaulin.

Thanks @swimferal for the most awesome #turtlebackbag, making beach life SO much better!"
